Super Giant Epic Update
So, wow. Where do we even begin. Lets see...
The Launch of SCWS Records!
As many of you know, some of our artists here at SCWS Films have been working with the guys at New Cult Records for quite sometime, doing music videos, album artwork, and marketing, for years. So when an idea came along for everyone to wash each others hands, you know we weren't going to say no. And so SCWS Records was born.
SCWS Records is a new way to run and develop a record label. Instead of the stereotypical system of giving large sums of money to acts that sound like what a producer thinks is sellable, we work towards getting the artist what they need to get him or herself that money, while also growing in profit ourselves.
An artist who signs with SCWS Records can, for example, expect first class music videos, album design and pressing, merchandise design, and more! For more information on SCWS Records, e-mail acting director and talent manager, Jeremy Austin at red.scwsrecords@gmail.com.
Remember when we told you about those contests we were entering? Yea, it turns out it was worth it. They're the main reason we havent updated in so long. The Volicon contest got us a second place win, and can be viewed here.
The Olafur Arnolds video was unfortunately canceled, but all the pieces the art department created are being recycled for use in a project for next years Sundance film festival! Oh yea, we're going to Sundance!
But as for the Painted Lady. Well, we've hit a snag or two. Mostly time stuff. Camera's are expensive and sometimes, camera companies screw things up. We were actually supposed to be filming pick ups this weekend, but those had to be post poned due to certain scheduling issues with the camera company. But dont worry. It's still happening.
Thats all for this update. I say for now because theres still so much much more, including an upcoming youtube show, announcements for the first line up of SCWS Records bands and live shows, new music videos, an all new art department, and more! This is going to be a busy summer!

New faces, new fun, and more!
It's about to be another week here at SCWS, and our playground is growing! This past week, we were proud to welcome Marketing Assistant, concept artist, poet, musician, and all around awesome guy, James Ryan Somers, to the team!
Fact: Starring into his eyes can cause love at first sight, or dimensional transference.
And that's not all! We're not quite ready to announce yet, but we have two more super duper awesome additions to the team, starting this coming week. Our family is multiplying like bunnies!
This month, you're going to start seeing a lot more of us (pun not intended). Later this week, we have an exclusive interview with Taylor "Neyney" Light, about her recent photo shoot with Inked magazine, and her experiences with the Painted Lady, along with our own little photo shoot with her.
Also in the next few weeks, you expect more merchandise at the store! Awesome side note, every time you guys buy our products, we get vouchers for free wine from nakedwines.com. So keep us at a healthy blood alcohol level by buying your mom an SCWS hoodie. She'll love you for it.
Speaking of the Painted Lady, because you have all been so patient, and because we have received dozens of threats against our lives if we don't show you something new soon, we are proud to say that you can expect a new teaser for our epic project in a couple weeks. Really. I'm not even kidding. Honest.
Come on, don't you trust me?
Now, you might be wondering why a small film production company is getting so much attention, and why anyone with talent and ambition within a hundred miles, is flocking here to work with us. And I got say, I'm kind of wondering the same thing. But it's a good thing we are, because here at SCWS, we have big dreams. Really big. So for the next month, while our visual effects team works endlessly on making the Painted Lady as perfect as possible, the rest of the crew is entering the spring contest season. This month we are entering not one, but four separate contests to try and get that mullah, so that we can then make the really crazy projects that we know you guys want to see!
Now, you already know about the Crack Track by Flesruoy Lliks' Red, where we count on you guys, the common fans, for getting it voted to the top, but there are more out there. I don't want to let too many kittens out of the hat, so I'm going to tell you about just one. And you know how I love to give you guys juicy details. Ah, the joys non restrictive confidentiality. Long live the independants.
So a few of you have have heard of a young Icelandic composer named Olafur Arnalds. Some of you may even have heard that he's coming out with a new single. What you not have heard is that he's put the music video up for bid, so anyone with the time and talent and inclination could create it, and in doing so, win a nice chunk of change.
So anyone that knows us, knows that we really only have one governing philosophy around here: Go Big, Or Go Home. So when we found out that the theme of the video is, in Olafurs own words, " the dilemma of not really believing in an afterlife but still wanting to know of some better place." So of course, here at SCWS, having a concept that is that rich and vast, and holds so many different possibilities to explore, makes us go a warm rubbery one.
While some entrees into the contest seem to be focused on a more abstract version of this idea, we decided to go all out, tracking a whole journey through the afterlife, almost Divine Comedy-esque. Our journey will go through the eastern ideas of reincarnation and Nirvana, into the depths of hell, and upwards through the gates of heaven. In between, we will see other, older ideas of the afterlife, like the greek Elysium Fields, and the Norse Valhalla.
In order to produce some of the epic locations required to put this piece together, we will be creating several miniature sets. These sets will be filmed on a greenscreen and composited with other footage and matte paintings, to create surreal, beautiful locations. Well, the term 'miniatures' doesnt quite describe these monstrocities. Lets call them 'Bigatures'. The Gate of Valhala alone is over 7 feet long.
And we're just building the main gate! Actual concept art
This week is going to be very busy for the production team, getting this new baby ready. You can be sure to see it when it comes out, April 11th.

Blatant Gimmick Cash In
At least we're honest. Earlier this week, 2nd Assistant Director Scarlett Edsell came up with an idea so extraordinary, so ambitious, so unique, that it could only have been a rip off of what is now the new Numa Numa. So we here at SCWS Films are shamelessly happy to announce our own little Harlem Shake video. Yay! Golf clap for us!
We did get a few celebrities in there though, like Dr. X and Red from underground horrorcore group Flesruoy Llik (we love those guys, if you couldn't tell), Inked model Taylor "NeyNey" Light, and a couple others. See if you can find them all, in this most debaucherous game of 'Where's Waldo?' ever conceived.
The video can be seen here.
Also, don't forget to go vote for our video on the Funk Volume Beats contest! And for some people that seem to be a tad confused, it's the green 'Vote' button, not the orange one. They did that on purpose, to confuse and alienate you.

New Video Coming This Week!
Before you get your hopes up, no. It's not the Painted Lady. But while you're eagerly awaiting the release of SCWS' big ambitious extravaganza, we do have some smaller projects coming down the pipeline.
There comes a time in every small production companies life when you start making videos for contests. It makes money, gives you free publicity if you win, and sometimes there's some added fun bonuses as well. Well this month, with our numbers growing, we decided to enter two contests. For the sake of surprising (or teasing, depending on how you look at it) you guys, we're only going to discuss one, that we hinted at on a Facebook post last night. That's right, the infamous Crack Track, a music video for Flesruoy Llik's own Red.
We have an interesting relationship with New Cult Records, having done their first music video, as well as their album artwork. For the Crack Track, we have a music video that we will be releasing as part of the Funk Volume Don't Fu[$]k up our Beats Contest. The winner of this contest get's a shiny 2500$ prize, and a chance to open up at a future Funk Volume concert.
Like most of our small music video projects, we used this as an experiment in a specific area of production. Last time it was color grading, this time it's chroma key. Practically every shot of this production was shot on green screen.
You might wonder why this is necessary, given that the entire video is shot outside, has an average backplate and...
Oh. Yea, there's an army of guys in hoodies behind Red. This was a simple little trick, shooting our hooded guy multiple times, in different positions, not moving the camera at all. We did this from several angles, then replaced him with Red, in front of our green screen. This is then composited approximately a bajillion times.
After the video launches, it will have a little over a week to get 250 votes from you awesome fans out there, in order to qualify for the final round. So we are depending on you guys!
The Crack Track goes live, this weekend! Be sure to check back here, or the facebook/twitter/etc for updates, and more announcements!
