Phew. Well, that was fun. We've just finished a week of fun and pain with our beautiful little Sony F700. I was so sad sending her back, I wish we could keep her. The image quality is sharp and the overcranking is superfluous. All in all, a great camera to have used to shot this piece with. I just wish the 4K update had come out BEFORE we got it, not a week later.
Once shooting started, it seemed like we were rushing so much to get everything done on schedule, I sort of forgot to just enjoy the victory. So after the two months of make up tests, set construction, costume design and production meetings, I'm personally feeling a little empty that it's over.
Oh, except it's not.
For the next two months we will be embarking on one of the most ambitious post productions in the area. Which, seeing as the whole video only has a running time of 5 minutes, is kind of sad. I'm hoping that this, and bigger projects like this, will jolt the local film community into the sort of productivity that will give us some competition. After all, as the old adage goes, competition is the mother of innovation. And we could always use more of that. Then again, please stay lazy. It makes us look better.
So now the post crew and I will be spending many relaxing weeks sipping martinis and eating cream cheese bagels while we take our sweet time keying, rendering, compositing and coloring all the beautiful footage we have taken. A walk in the park. Or at least, that how it feels, compared to the 36 hour days of freezing outside in Albany. Our crew has got to be one of the best around, to have put up with that for as long as we did. I'll be adding a blog about our post process in the next couple days, so you guys can wrap your brains around how exciting it all is, putting the pieces together.
Anyone else interested in seeing some of the behind the scenes stuff, some cast and crew were taking pictures and uploaded them. I direct you to Neyneys' Instagram and our favorite assistant for just about anything, Tom Liles' Instagram. I'm sure we'll eventually get a whole gallery of behind the scenes footage and pics up, but right now, if you haven't noticed we're all a little busy.
Oh and Flesruoy Llik's Dr. X just got a PS3 for the conference room, so there's that too.
